Roxanne and alcohol
Hello,
I have decided to abstain from alcohol altogether since a year to see what the effect would be. What I can say is that it has stabilised and not progressed since then.
20 years ago, I contracted hepatitus A while travelling through Central America and did a radical diet for about a year...abstaining from many foods, coffee, alcohol and all that would and could be toxic to the liver. At that time, I had DC but only a knucle pad on the small finger of the left hand. After several months of this radical diet, the nodule was no longer there...Since then it has grown back and i also have lederhose's disease.
I am convinced that there is a link with alcohol consumption and for that reason, I decided to do a test and abstain from alcohol. It has now been a year and all that I notice is that the disease seems to have stabilised...I was hoping for a remission but I did not do the radical died that I did 20 years ago..

Radical Diet
That's all very interesting. The radical diet...can you elaborate on that?
I've been thinking about what I can do to take better care of my liver. I once heard of a liver-cleansing supplement, but can't remember what it was.
I'm going to abstain from alcohol and do self-hypnosis to see if I can get this nodule to shrink. Anybody tried that yet?

liver supplement
Age 57, 13 years sobriety, DC appeared around 12 years ago (age 45). When I quit drinking the doc said I was on the verge of alcohol induced diabetes, was 80 pounds overweight (used to love those midnight fast food deliveries). Don't live like that any more but the DC still marches on.

liver supplement
I have been diagnosed with DD (doupytrons Disease) and i am only 23! My dad also has had it since 39 and his is aggresive and i think mine will be even more. (Doupytrons diathesis) I have been drinking fairly solidly since 17 and i have nodules on my knuckles of my ring fingers both hands, my little finger and my middle finger right hand. And a nodule on my left foot. No contractures as yet though! I have really slowed down the partying to see what happens in the next few years. But it did used to feel like the nodule had grown or been irritated by the alcohol. I believe it has something to do with it. When you drink alcohol or eat shit food and do anything else that causes your body to become weaker it becomes less efficient at masking DD. The disease will show up in a weak body more than a strong one. I believe this is also why it is an older persons disease because their body is weaker allowing the DD to show through. Don't know about you but i'm changin my diet and everything! Dairy is really bad it contains growth hormones which will help DD as it is a growth disease. Go to a natural therapist for advice not just Western doctors.

liver supplement
Roxanne, The supplement you're thinking of is probably milk thistle extract (silymarin) available pretty much anyplace that sells vitamins. It's a liver antioxidant and offers protection for the liver from toxins.

Alcohol & Dupuytrens
I've pretty much cut out the drinking, except when everyone else is drinking around me and offering good wine.
The nodule does seem irritated the next day.
Thanks Mary Beth for telling me what that supplement is. I might check it out.

Alcohol & Dupuytrens
After reading this thread a week ago I decided to leave booze alone totally, after being a regular drinker for well over 40 years.
In six months I am planning to travel from Perth, Australia to Paris for a NA treatment with Dr. Badois.
If nothing else, staying away from drink will help pay a fair part of my travel expenses!

The Bottle
Fine....boozers have more DD. Perhaps....but I do not give a hoot! I go through a bottle of Jim Beam every night and I feel fine! Yeah...I have DD. I'll take a dose of NA now and then but I'll be damed if I will give up my booze!

alcohol and dc
Red, I am not sure if drinking aggravates dupuytrens but, the ammount you are drinking will sure aggravate your liver. Not the best idea in the world to down a whole bottle a day. Might be a good idea to take a little care of yourself. Marjorie
